Lots of good investing advice to contemplate

A relator friend referred this book to me and I think it is a great quick read for first time home buyers。

I hate the Dummies in the title but it was a pretty solid overview of stuff。。。facts but not exciting, but that seems like kind of the point?

It was what it promised-- an overview of finances from a very basic level。 It broke down each aspect of finances and gave solid advice/resources for people to examine。

WE'RE going to put this one on hold。 Realizing it doesn't make a ton of sense to read in depth about investing, when I'm literally not going to be making any money for the next four years??? Very good book, it emphasize on three areas1。Funding (how to get money, this is very basic problem of property as this very expensive)2。Valuation (this is basically the core of this book, in my opinion, jargon like location, location, location)3。Operation (Landlord, Risk, Accounting, Tax)

Mostly related to the citizen of the USA, and I don't get why this book exists in Europe。 But generally speaking, it leads you to the traditional way of investing: don't take any risks, play safe with your money。 Mostly related to the citizen of the USA, and I don't get why this book exists in Europe。 But generally speaking, it leads you to the traditional way of investing: don't take any risks, play safe with your money。 。。。more

It's hard to judge the book's value until I go through the buying process。 I had already read three books on home buying so I didn't expect to learn much new information。 However, I was happily surprised to learn some great tips on determining financial readiness and market conditions。 It's hard to judge the book's value until I go through the buying process。 I had already read three books on home buying so I didn't expect to learn much new information。 However, I was happily surprised to learn some great tips on determining financial readiness and market conditions。 。。。more

Educating myself on personal finances has been a big goal of mine these past 6 or so months。 The good news, is that I know more than I think I do and already have some pretty good practices in place。 There was definitely some new solid advice that I will be following, but even the stuff I already know about was just good to read for my own confidence。 You don’t have to be a genius or devote hours and hours of research to be in good financial standing。I wish I had read this book at least 10 years Educating myself on personal finances has been a big goal of mine these past 6 or so months。 The good news, is that I know more than I think I do and already have some pretty good practices in place。 There was definitely some new solid advice that I will be following, but even the stuff I already know about was just good to read for my own confidence。 You don’t have to be a genius or devote hours and hours of research to be in good financial standing。I wish I had read this book at least 10 years earlier, but really it’s never too late for this kind of stuff。 I think the other surprising thing through all of this is that just educating myself alone has made me more exited about saving and investing money。 I am so much better about thinking on it before I make an impulse purchase that I don’t really need。 A year ago I would have bought a designer handbag with my work bonus, now it goes towards retirement savings!I know it’s kind of easy to make fun of these “For Dummies” books, but Tyson did a really good job of simplifying the content and recommending good next steps。 If you don’t want to read it (I don’t necessarily blame you), I’d love to share some of the things I learned。 Financial independence is so important。 。。。more

Good basic introduction to those thinking about beginning a small business。 Nothing super advanced is in here - just the sort of challenges and problems to expect when going into business。 Some tips and tricks here and there as well that are somewhat helpful。 Good book to reference for those that have no idea about what goes into a small business。

Daniel

Gotta start somewhere!Overall a solid book running through the basics of budgeting, paying down debt, investing, and insurance。 A great starting place on each of the topics。Pros: comprehensive, direct advice on investing/insurance, wisdom on how to seek professional helpCons: some of the chapters were unnecessary such as dieting tips

Anya

This book is pretty much what I was looking for; a clear headed overview, with some solid advice (like not to trade or waste your time investing in individual stocks as an amateur)。 Downside is that it is written from the American point of view and and so issues on taxes do not compare to the country I live in (and so advise about taxes on investment growth or pensions can be ignored)。 Important to compare the tax benefits in your own country。

I read the 2013 edition from a little free library, and while some of the information is a little out of date when it comes to costs of trading and further benefits of online brokerages, the fundamentals are all sound。

I did help with a good number of questions and questions I didn't know I even had。 I had a older version of the book but I was frustrated that they gave the internet/web pages toward the end of the book。 The webpages would have been useful when searching for a home。 I did help with a good number of questions and questions I didn't know I even had。 I had a older version of the book but I was frustrated that they gave the internet/web pages toward the end of the book。 The webpages would have been useful when searching for a home。 。。。more

Keep in mind this is a book to give you information on how to better save your money for the future and not how to manage your current finances。 There is a personal finance book the author mentions for that purpose。The advice in this book is solid。 The types of basics that everyone should know and nothing too flashy。 The steps outlined is a great foundation to outline how to save for things such as retirement, a house, a car, a vacation, and education (either for yourself or someone else)。 The b Keep in mind this is a book to give you information on how to better save your money for the future and not how to manage your current finances。 There is a personal finance book the author mentions for that purpose。The advice in this book is solid。 The types of basics that everyone should know and nothing too flashy。 The steps outlined is a great foundation to outline how to save for things such as retirement, a house, a car, a vacation, and education (either for yourself or someone else)。 The best part is that this book doesn't overuse jargon, but also doesn't talk down to you (even though the title says for dummies)。 Many of the things explained I had heard before when I started researching into how I wanted to save my money, but now that I have read these explanations I plan on making some modifications as it just makes sense。All in all for the information I would give this a 3。5 to 4 out of 5。 。。。more

DNF @ 45%。 Just not really very helpful。 Info is fairly simplistic and vague。 The two things I was hoping it would address literally got glossed over with two paragraphs and a "see Eric's other book。" Also, the book appears geared toward people right around 65 who are financially secure (but might not realize it) and ready to retire very soon。 Doesn't really address the practical straits of non-affluent Americans。 Also got tired of the sales pitch for the author's other books and absolutely don' DNF @ 45%。 Just not really very helpful。 Info is fairly simplistic and vague。 The two things I was hoping it would address literally got glossed over with two paragraphs and a "see Eric's other book。" Also, the book appears geared toward people right around 65 who are financially secure (but might not realize it) and ready to retire very soon。 Doesn't really address the practical straits of non-affluent Americans。 Also got tired of the sales pitch for the author's other books and absolutely don't want health and lifestyle advice from Dr。 Oz。 。。。more

Good infoI really needed tips on investing and planning for the future。 This book helped with that though I will say some it really is not simple at all and will leave you rereading the page multiple times to understand。 I do feel slightly more confident in discussing investing now without being lost。

Good information, definitely need to go back to it as your doing the actions it gives information on。

This book goes into extreme detail about the different aspects of investing and assumes that the reader is starting from scratch which was ideal for me。 The book is divided into sections including stocks, index/mutual funds, real estate, and property。 I focused on the first two sections since that's what I'm interested in right now and the book did a good job of explaining the difference between the different kinds of funds in the market。 I used this book as a Kickstarter to do more research on This book goes into extreme detail about the different aspects of investing and assumes that the reader is starting from scratch which was ideal for me。 The book is divided into sections including stocks, index/mutual funds, real estate, and property。 I focused on the first two sections since that's what I'm interested in right now and the book did a good job of explaining the difference between the different kinds of funds in the market。 I used this book as a Kickstarter to do more research on my own about funds online。 。。。more

Great overview of both sides of the home buying process。 The emphasis is less on sellers (as little consideration as buyers would grant sellers)。 Filled with little hints and cautionary tips。 For the U。S。 market。 Currently moving on to the equivalent "for Dummies in Canada"。 Will be able to draw a comparison afterwards。 Great overview of both sides of the home buying process。 The emphasis is less on sellers (as little consideration as buyers would grant sellers)。 Filled with little hints and cautionary tips。 For the U。S。 market。 Currently moving on to the equivalent "for Dummies in Canada"。 Will be able to draw a comparison afterwards。 。。。more

Basically the most comprehensive book I’ve read so far on home buying。 And I’ve read 4 so far including this so obviously I know what I’m talking about。 Jokes aside, this book is actually a really comprehensive bible for those who want to buy a home。 It has all the tips and tricks that one wouldn’t think about and also has ideas on how you should invest your money。 Just remember。 If you hold you property for 5-7 years, and the growth in prices exceeds both the case-Schiller for the area and is c Basically the most comprehensive book I’ve read so far on home buying。 And I’ve read 4 so far including this so obviously I know what I’m talking about。 Jokes aside, this book is actually a really comprehensive bible for those who want to buy a home。 It has all the tips and tricks that one wouldn’t think about and also has ideas on how you should invest your money。 Just remember。 If you hold you property for 5-7 years, and the growth in prices exceeds both the case-Schiller for the area and is close enough to the stock market, you’ve got a good deal going on。 Probably。 When you think about this it actually makes sense。 How can a book about home buying be devoid of the aspect of investing? Home buying is literally the number one way people build wealth in America; it’s how people become millionaires。 The dude who wrote this also wrote the investing guide for dummies。 I know it’s embarrassing to say I liked a dummies book but legit why is that the case? It’s not like I’m an expert on the subject matter and if a book claims to help dummies understand something better and it’s thick AF then it probably has something good to say。 This book was definitely one of those。 。。。more

If you have never taken a high school economics class (or any other intro level econ class), then this book is for you。 It teaches very basic concepts about how investing works, how owning a small business may benefit you and investing in real estate。 None of these topics are covered in depth and this book probably should be used as an entry point into the field you are interested in。

Analyze a lot of terms from different areas of investment (stocks, indexes, commodities, derivatives, land, houses etc)。 A very good start for someone who wants to learn some basics for different areas of investing。
